Woman wounded in Oakland freeway shooting
The suspect in an Oakland freeway onramp shooting Saturday that left a woman wounded in the chin is being sought by the CHP.
OAKLAND — The California Highway Patrol continued to search Monday for a suspect in a shooting Saturday morning on an Interstate 980 onramp that left a woman who was passenger in a car with a gunshot wound to her chin, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 4:07 a.m. Saturday on the 11th street onramp to the eastbound lanes of I-980.
The CHP said the victim was a passenger in a white Lexus sedan. The victim and driver were the only occupants.
The CHP said the two heard gunfire coming from the right side of their car before the woman was wounded in the chin. No other information was released about the woman.
The driver was not hurt and took the victim to an Oakland hospital where the CHP was notified.
Detailed descriptions of the shooter and the vehicle they were in were not available.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. Investigators are also trying to determine if the occupants in the Lexus were the intended targets.
Anyone with information may call the CHP Oakland office at 510-457-2875 and ask for Officer Saldana.
There have been numerous shootings on Oakland freeways this year, including an 8-year-old boy shot and gravely wounded July 14 on Interstate 580. Three of the shootings left victims dead.
