Santa Clara: Boichik Bagels forecasts October opening for first South Bay shop
Pumperthingle bagels, Horseradish Cheddar schmear on their way
Famed Berkeley bagel maker Emily Winston kept her word on expanding outside the East Bay.
The founder/CEO launched her first Peninsula outpost of Boichik Bagels at Palo Alto’s Town & Country Village, last November. This fall, expect to see customers lining up in Santa Clara for these boiled New York-style bagels.
Winston told the Bay Area News Group in the fall of 2021 about her plans to open more Bay Area bagel shops following the lease of a massive North Berkeley bagel warehouse where production could be increased. “People tell us they drive an hour from Palo Alto and San Jose for bagels, so the Peninsula is definitely a priority,” she said at the time. That facility was up and running earlier this year.
This week Winston said she’s hoping to open in October in the new Mission Park Marketplace in Santa Clara’s northern tech corridor.
Look for the same menu of eats: Fifteen types of bagels, including the popular Pumperthingle and Eggything, and an intriguing array of schmears (Horseradish Cheddar, Hatch Chile). Vegan cream cheese is available too. Boichik also sells smoked salmon and house-made whitefish salad and makes sandwich combos.
