Dumbarton Bridge lanes reopened after fiery crashes
Two crashes forced a closure of all eastbound lanes on the Dumbarton Bridge near Newark early Thursday morning, the CHP said.
NEWARK — Two crashes forced a full closure on the Dumbarton Bridge portion of eastbound Highway 84 just after 5:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The initial crash was a rollover in which a person was ejected from a vehicle. According to the CHP, the ejected person suffered head injuries but was expected to recover.
Authorities did not release more information about how that first crash was believed to unfold.
As a result of the first crash, a second collision took place when a driver slammed on their brakes in reaction to the rollover. They subsequently lost control and crashed, with the driver suffering minor injuries, the CHP said.
All lanes on the bridge were closed around 6 a.m. as crews cleaned up a gravel spill, the CHP said, but were reopened as of 10 a.m.
This is a developing report. Check back for updates.
