Draymond Green out for start of training camp with ankle sprain
Golden State Warriors' Draymond Green will be sidelined with an injury
Draymond Green has a sprained left ankle that could cost him the start of the Warriors’ season.
The team confirmed the injury Saturday and is expected to provide a timetable for Green’s return on Monday when it opens training camp with Media Day.
Initial reports are that Green, 33, could be out three-to-six weeks. The Warriors’ open the regular season Oct. 24 against the Phoenix Suns. Nine of their first 11 games are on the road, where they went 11-30 last season.
Green signed a four-year, $100 million extension with the Warriors when free agency opened in June. He played 73 games last season, averaging 31.5 minutes per game with 6.8 assists, 7.2 rebounds and 8.5 points.
The Warriors open their exhibition schedule Saturday against the Los Angeles. Green’s absence could open the door for Jonathan Kuminga to earn minutes in his place with the starters — which could include a combination of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, Andrew Wiggins and Kevon Looney.
