Man killed in Richmond freeway crash
A pickup truck driver died Friday morning in a crash on I-580 in Richmond.
RICHMOND — A man died Friday morning after his pickup truck went down an embankment on Interstate 580 and crashed into a tree, the California Highway Patrol said.
The man’s name was not immediately released.
The crash happened about 6:50 a.m. Friday on westbound I-580 east of the Harbour Way offramp.
The CHP said the man’s Toyota Tacoma hit a sign pole on the right shoulder before going down an embankment and crashing into a tree.
The man was trapped in the truck; paramedics gave him medical treatment while firefighters tried to free him from the wreckage.
He was finally removed from the vehicle about 7:26 a.m. but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities closed the two righthand westbound lanes about 7:54 a.m. while officers investigated and the truck was removed from the crash site. The closure was still in effect at 9:20 a.m.
