Police pursuit that started in San Francisco ends with arrest in East Bay
Police said they expected to release more details later Monday.
A police chase Sunday evening that started in San Francisco and ended in Martinez wound up with one person arrested, authorities said.
It all started about 5:50 p.m., when San Francisco police were called to a report of an assault in the 600 block of Filbert Street, according to a statement from San Francisco police spokesperson Sgt. Kathryn Winters. The officers located the suspect, who then took off in the vehicle.
San Francisco police pursued the vehicle from the city onto Interstate 80, where the California Highway Patrol took over.
The CHP arrested the person at an undisclosed location in Martinez. No information was available immediately Monday morning on the circumstances surrounding the end of the chase.
Winters said police were expected to release more details later Monday.
According to Winters, the suspect in the area of 8th and Mission streets threw objects out of the vehicle at the pursuing officers. Police did not say immediately Monday morning what they thought the objects were but told the public to avoid that area, as well as the 1500 block of Jones Street, and to report any strange-looking devices they might see in the area by calling 911.
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 415-575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411.
