Driver survives after vehicle hit by train in Oakland

OAKLAND — A driver was injured Wednesday morning when his SUV was hit by an Amtrak train near Jack London Square, authorities said.
His condition was not immediately available.
The collision happened about 7:25 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Oak Street and Embarcadero West, a few blocks from Jack London Square Amtrak Station.
Authorities said initial reports were that the SUV went around a lowered railroad crossing gate at the intersection before it was struck by a northbound Amtrak train.
Amtrak identified the train as Capitol Corridor 524 which originated in San Jose and was headed to Sacramento. None of the 19 passengers and crew on board were injured.
The driver, who was the only person in the SUV, was taken to a hospital.
The train was delayed for more than an hour while authorities investigated.
