Prep roundup: Miramonte, Sacred Heart Prep sweep NCS, CCS Open water polo finals

Girls water polo
Miramonte 9, Campolindo 7
Miramonte held off a scrappy Campolindo team to win its third consecutive North Coast Section Open Division crown. The Matadors jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the first quarter, and led 8-2 at halftime.
Rosalie Hassett scored three goals to lead Miramonte, and Tali Stryker, Bea Hearey, and Audrina Kang all scored twice.
Campolindo didn’t stop fighting after going down big early. The Cougars scored the last three goals of the game.
Nikki Frazier got three shots past the keeper, Ana Pieper scored twice, and London Menard and Ainsley Hogan both scored once. Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Kring helped keep the Moraga school in the game with 15 saves.
Miramonte improved to 24-2, and Campolindo fell to 19-7. According to stats inputted into MaxPreps, it was the Orinda school’s 20th consecutive victory over the Cougars.
Sacred Heart Prep 9, Soquel 6
The Gators enjoyed balanced scoring to win the Central Coast Section Open title. Vivan Golub, Natalia Szczerba and Kiernan Hogan each scored two goals. Megan Newby and Margaret Brandin scored once for the Gators, and Brandin also tied Szczerba for the team lead with two assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ellison Brush saved six shots for the Gators, who improved to 23-3.
Boys water polo
Miramonte 12, De La Salle 10
Miramonte’s boys followed a similar script to the girls, jumping on De La Salle early and leading 3-0 a few minutes after the NCS Open Division championship started.
Henry Engs scored three goals, as did Griff Tunney. Grant Kurtz also scored three goals, and Patrick Stice scored a pair for Miramonte.
The Matadors led 7-4 at halftime and 10-7 at the end of the third quarter. Davidka Skov scored five of DLS’ last seven goals, including the Spartans’ last two as the Concord school kept the game close throughout.
Aside from Skov’s five goals, Breydon Congo scored twice, and Jayson Hubbard scored a pair of goals.
Miramonte improved to 15-11, and De La Salle dropped to 18-8
Sacred Heart Prep 10, Bellarmine 7
Sacred Heart Prep added another piece of CCS hardware to a crowded trophy case when it defeated Bellarmine in the Open Division title.
Sacred Heart Prep led by five goals late in the third quarter, and aside from a mini-comeback by the Bells in the fourth quarter, the result was never in doubt.
Andrew Spencer scored three goals and had four assists for SHP. Luke Kirincich, Oliver Marcin and Clay Carrington were right behind him with two goals each. Nelson Harris scored a goal and had an assist, and goalkeeper Murdock Baker-Matsuoka saved four shots.
Max Mason led Bellarmine with two goals, and Jackson Boettner, Luke Kalynij, Razvan Alistar, Tyler Roller and Kosta Ceprnic all scored a goal for the Bells.
Piedmont 10, Alameda 8
Piedmont won the program’s first NCS Division II title in an all-Alameda County final match. Piedmont coach John Savage wrote in an email, ”We were led by a group of seniors that have put in work since their freshman year.”
Declane Linnane scored six goals and had two steals to lead the team in both categories. George Stein scored once and had two assists, and Quincy Scherman, Peter Krumins and Elles Krieckhaus each scored once.
Cross country
CCS championships
Palo Alto senior Grant Morgenfeld won the boys Division II race and Menlo-Atherton senior Tatum Olesen reached the finish line first in the girls Division I race on Saturday at the Central Coast Section cross country championships.
Morgenfeld covered the 2.95-mile Crystal Springs course in Belmont in 15 minutes, 5.2 seconds, the day’s second-fastest time behind only Division IV champion Eli Fitchen-Young of Santa Cruz (14:55.1).
Olesen had the second-best time among the girls, finishing in 17:54.8. Only Division IV champion Ashlyn Boothby of Scotts Valley (17:52.2) was faster.
Bellarmine had the best overall team score and celebrated another Division I championship. St. Francis finished with the top girls team result as the Lancers won the Division II title.
Other highlights:
– Archbishop Mitty’s Evie Marheineke won the girls Division II title and had the day’s third-best time (18:05.2).
– Crystal Springs’ Benjamin Bouie helped his team win the boys Division V title while winning the D-V individual crown. He posted a time of 15:11.6, the third-best overall mark.
– Pioneer’s Carson Hedlund won the boys Division III race in 15:11.9, the fourth-fastest time overall.
– Los Altos’ Jasleen Sidhu finished second to Marheineke in the girls D-II race in 18:15.0, the fourth-best time overall.
— Girls team champions: Evergreen Valley (D-I), St. Francis (D-II), Burlingame (D-III), Scotts Valley (D-IV), Crystal Springs (D-V).
— Boys team champions: Bellarmine (D-I), St. Francis (D-II), St. Ignatius (D-III), Archbishop Riordan (D-IV), Crystal Springs (D-V).
Girls volleyball
Sacred Heart Cathedral 3, Notre Dame-Belmont 0
Sarah Chow had 33 assists as the Fightin’ Irish swept NDB 25-21, 25-11, 27-25 to advance to the Division II NorCal final vs. Clovis North on Tuesday.
Notre Dame did not go without a fight,” SHC coach Symone Mackiewicz wrote in an email. “The third set they had us on our toes and mentally prepping for a possible fourth set.”
Sarah Caulder and Hazel Nelson each had nine kills, and Evelyn Law had six kills. Angel Gumboc had 22 digs, and Chow contributed nine digs to go along with her multitude of assists.
