OAKLAND — Police here have identified a 34-year-old man who was killed in an early morning Oct. 29 shooting.
Marquis Baxter was shot and killed around 3:20 a.m., during a fight with another person on the 400 block of 19th Street in downtown Oakland, police said. He was pronounced dead 20 minutes later at a nearby hospital.
Baxter was shot a short time after leaving a local nightclub, but it was unclear whether the shooting stemmed from something that happened there, police said. No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been announced.
During the 2010s, Baxter recorded numerous rap songs and music videos under the stage name Hillside Quis. At the time he was shot, he was wearing a necklace with the initials “HQ,” police said. The necklace was found next to his body when paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital, authorities said.
Police say Baxter was engaged in a heated confrontation with one person when a second suspect walked up and fired at him an undisclosed number of times.
