Authorities identify driver who slammed into disabled pickup truck on I-680
The wreck happened on northbound Interstate 680 just south of Pacheco Boulevard exit.
A man who died Tuesday after slamming into a pickup truck that was experiencing mechanical troubles on the freeway has been identified.
Jimmy Thai, 39, of Novato, died at the scene following the crash, which happened about 9:35 a.m. on northbound Interstate 680 just south of the Pacheco Boulevard exit. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office released Thai’s identity publicly Thursday.
No other vehicles were involved. The crash blocked three freeway lanes for about 2½ hours.
CHP spokeperson Officer Adam Lane said a Ford-F550 became disabled in the far left lane because of mechanical issues. The Ford Escape that Thai drove was unable to avoid it.
The pickup truck driver was not injured, Lane said.
