Wrong-way driver and another man die after crash on I-280 in Daly City
Two men died Monday morning after a wrong-way driver collided into another vehicle on Interstate 280 in Daly City.
DALY CITY — A crash on Interstate 280 in Daly City on Monday morning left two men dead, including one who was driving on the wrong side of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
One of the men, 53, was driving a Toyota Corolla northbound on the southbound lanes when he collided with a Toyota Previa minivan driven by a 33-year-old man. The crash took place around 2:42 a.m. just south of John Daly Boulevard, according to CHP public information officer Mark Andrews.
The 53-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 33-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office did not publicly identify the two men Monday morning pending confirmation of their names and notification to their families.
Authorities did not immediately speculate on a possible cause for the driver going the wrong way on the interstate. There was no word on whether drugs or alcohol was suspected as of Monday morning.
The crash forced the closure of two lanes for about two hours, Andrews said.
