Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from March 11-16.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.
We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.
On to the nominees:
Hannah Ames, Leland softball: Ames, a senior, hit two home runs and drove in five runs in Leland’s back-and-forth 10-8 victory over Live Oak on Wednesday. In a 5-0 victory over Branham a few days later, she assisted on two outs.
Jewel Cooper, Liberty softball: Cooper, a freshman, hit two home runs in the Lions’ crazy 12-10 win over Central Catholic-Modesto. The Lions came back from four different deficits, and Cooper’s final two-run homer walked things off in the ninth inning.
Eden Enoru, Heritage track and field: Enoru, a junior, placed first in the 400-meter race at the Eddie Hart Invitation after she ran it in a school-record 57.62 seconds. That was 0.53 seconds faster than second-place.
Ellie McCuskey-Hay, St. Ignatius track and field: McCuskey-Hay, a sophomore, has picked up right where she left off to end her great freshman year. She placed first in the 100-meter event with a time of 11.62 seconds, and also won the long jump and was part of the first-place 4X100-meter team.
Carley Hudson, Campolindo lacrosse: Hudson, a senior, scored four goals on four shots, and had one assist, in Campolindo’s 11-8 victory over rival Acalanes. She got two goals past the keeper in a previous game against Granite Bay.
DJ Martinez, Cupertino softball: Martinez, a senior, was 3 for 4 with a double and home run and three RBI in a victory over Cupertino. On Thursday, Martinez went 2 for 2 with a triple in Cupertino’s 13-2 win against Palo Alto.
Karlina Meyer, Carondelet softball: Meyer, a junior, hit a triple and a home run in Carondelet’s 18-0 rout over Las Lomas. The Cougars improved to 3-1 on the season with the victory.
Averi Peters, Gilroy softball: Peters helped the Mustangs win their fifth straight game in a thriller. Her walkoff single up the middle that gave Gilroy the dramatic 6-5 victory over Leigh. Gilroy trailed 5-0 to start the seventh inning.
Hanalei Strub, Bishop O’Dowd softball: Strub, a senior, pitched an eight-inning complete game as the Dragons defeated Redwood 7-5. She also had three hits at the plate in two games during the week, both O’Dowd victories.
Emma De Vicente, Hillsdale lacrosse: De Vincent, a senior, scored five goals as Hillsdale narrowly defeated Carlmont 11-9. In a victory against Live Oak, she had an assist and a goal for the Knights.
Summer Young, Menlo School track and field: Young, a senior, cleared five feet, eight inches in the high jump at the St. Francis Invitational to break her own school record of 5-5 set last season. She also tied the West Bay Athletic League mark set by Notre Dame-Belmont’s Melanie Castelli last season. Young’s record is tied for sixth in the nation and tied for first in the state.
