Photo agency explains why an editor’s note was put on Kate’s cancer video
A media agency has been forced to explain why they added an editor’s note to the video of the Princess of Wales revealing her cancer diagnosis.
Kate Middleton released a recorded message March 22 saying she had not returned to the public eye as she underwent preventative cancer treatment.
But Getty Images placed a note on their version of the clip.
It read: ‘This handout clip was provided by a third-party organisation and may not adhere to Getty Images’ editorial policy.’
This sparked a reaction online, particuarly after a picture released on Mother’s Day by the Princess of Wales was revealed to have been edited.
Some X users even accused the video of being faked, but Getty said the way the video was flagged was standard practice handed to it by third party organisations.
Kensington Palace disclosed BBC Studios recorded the video just two days before it was released to the public.
In the video, Kate did not reveal what form of cancer she has but went public about her treatment after social media became awash with conspiracy theories.
She said she held off on revealing her condition to the public in order to give her children time to process the news.
In a devastating address to the nation, Kate said: ‘It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.
‘In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful.
‘However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.
‘This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time.’
She is said to be in good spirits and has a positive mindset about her recovery, saying she is ‘getting stronger everyday’.
King Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer in February, is said to be ‘proud’ of his ‘beloved’ daughter-in-law for her ‘courage’ in speaking about her treatment and has remained in close contact with her during the past few weeks.
A spokesperson said His Majesty has ‘remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.’
