The proponent of what will probably be North America’s next new copper mine development, Nevada Copper, has signed a pre-works agreement with Cementation USA and secured key long-lead time items, further derisking the restart of construction of the company's fully permitted and shovel-ready Pumpkin Hollow underground project, it announced on Thursday. These activities are expected to allow the company to rapidly advance the restart of construction of its 5 000 t/d underground project, targeting first copper production in 2019.

Mine management solutions provider Modular Mining Systems (MMS) is continuously working on making value-added enhancements to its core technologies, says MMS MD Lourens du Plessis. He says customer feedback plays an important role in how the company’s solutions evolve over time. “By engaging with customers to understand how they use or products, we are better able to make changes that will increase the value in use that our solutions provide,” he explains.

The local and sub-Saharan African market has responded “very positively” to the establishment of SRK Exploration Services, a discipline-led division of SRK Global, says SRK Exploration Services Southern African exploration manager Oliver Bayley. Generating an optimised mine schedule with practical production plans is a unique combination that provides mining companies strategic control, according to the company, which notes that Evolution produces medium-, long-term and strategic life-of-mine schedules which reduce operating costs.

Engineering support services company Babcock is preparing to introduce a new line-up of rigid haulers into the mining, opencast and quarrying sector in Southern Africa. The new line-up follows vehicle manufacturer Volvo Construction Equipment’s (Volvo CE’s) announcement earlier this year that it will launch its own range of Volvo CE-branded rigid haulers. As part of the range, Volvo is introducing the R100E – an entirely new Volvo CE product, with a design focused on cost-effective production, durability, comfort and safety.
