COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- To sum up how crazy this winter was, remember Columbus saw a green Christmas and a white Crew-mas.
This was the warmest winter on record for the contiguous U.S., with an average temperature of 37.6 degrees. That is 5.4 degrees above average.
Data shows that eight states had their warmest winter on record. These states are primarily located in the Midwest and Northeast regions.
26 additional states, including Ohio, saw their top-10 warmest winters on record. In Columbus the average temperature was 37.94 degrees. That makes this past winter the fifth warmest winter on record.
Snow totals were low, although snow did fall on Feb. 24 when the Crew played its MLS home opener at Lower.com Field. Columbus is over a foot short on snowfall for the season. Other cities like Pittsburgh and Cleveland were multiple feet below normal.
All in all it was a brief winter that ended with an early start to the severe weather season.
