COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- With November's presidential election pretty much set, Tuesday's Ohio primary was fairly inconsequential as far as the race at the top of the ticket is concerned.
Both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump secured enough delegates last week to clinch their respective party's nomination, and both were projected to win Ohio's delegates from their respective parties, according to unofficial election results.
In the 2016 primary, Trump finished second to then-Ohio governor John Kasich and ahead of Sen. Ted Cruz in a crowded Republican field. Trump went on to then beat Hillary Clinton (who beat Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary) in the general election, winning the Buckeye State by more than 8 points.

Four years later, as an incumbent, Trump ran unopposed in the primary. On the Democratic side, Biden was the only candidate left in the race, with Sen. Bernie Sanders -- the last from another crowded field -- having withdrawn.
The 2020 primary came right at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting Gov. Mike DeWine to push primary election day back by nearly two months -- from March 17 to June 2. However, the DeWine administration and the legislature compromised to run an all-mail primary through April 28.
Later in the year, Trump again won Ohio in the general election and again by about the same margin -- just over 8% -- as he did in 2016. However, Ohio wasn't enough to push Trump over the top, and Biden secured the presidency.
The deadline to register for the Nov. 5 general election is Oct. 7.
