Dozens of dogs dead after Morrow County fire
MOUNT GILEAD, Ohio (WCMH) -- 70 dogs died Tuesday morning after a fire at a Morrow County building.
According to a spokesperson with the Johnsville Fire Department, a fire occurred at around 1 a.m. at 4836 State Route 314 in Mount Gilead. Fire Chief Harlan Barrick said the building belongs to an Amish puppy breeder.
70 dogs were killed in the fire with residents able to save 17 other dogs before firefighters arrived. One puppy was found inside the building alive and was rescued. The fire's cause was determined to be from a wood burner with one of the building's owners putting in wood between 11 and 11:30 p.m., per the fire department.
