Millie Bobby Brown's Enola Holmes Movie Heads to Netflix
The upcoming, Enola Holmes movie starring Millie Bobby Brown will be released by Netflix. Enola Holmes is a character in Nancy Springer’s Edgar Award-nominated book series, The Enola Holmes Mysteries. The stories follow Enola, the brilliant teen sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes, as she goes on her own sleuthing adventures. The casting of Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) as the lead was first announced in January 2018.
Netflix has now officially acquired the global rights (not including China) to Legendary Entertainment's Enola Holmes. The movie will take place in the 1880s, and will be about Enola going off on her own to London to find her mother, who mysteriously disappears on Enola's 16th birthday. During her search, Enola gets caught up in the middle of a large conspiracy that could have serious ramifications for the course of political history.
The original book series, on which the movie is based, first began with The Case of the Missing Marquess in 2006. There are six books in total, with the first and fifth books being nominated for Edgar Awards in 2007 and 2010. The movie is directed by Emmy, BAFTA, and Golden Globe-winner Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve). Tony Award and BAFTA winner Jack Thorne is the screenwriter. Henry Cavill will play the role of Enola's brother, the famous Sherlock Holmes, while Helena Bonham Carter will play Enola's missing mother.
There have been countless iterations of Sherlock Holmes, and most viewers are familiar with his stories. It's time for something different. A movie about Enola will be a welcome, new adventure. With the talented cast and creative team behind Enola Holmes, the movie is sure to be a refreshing take on the world-famous detective family.
