The Voice: Gwen Stefani Responds to Rumors She Broke Up With Blake
The blind auditions for The Voice season 19 are underway, but rumors of a breakup between coaches Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been the biggest story of the season so far. The status of their relationship was unclear going into the season. However, Stefani recently spoke with Hoda Kotb on the Today Show about what is going on between her and Shelton.
Stefani and Shelton first met back on The Voice season 7. Their relationship took off two seasons later, as they bonded over their respective divorces. Fans enjoyed the flirtatious banter between the two singers until last season, as Stefani stepped away from the show. Now, as she returns for The Voice season 19, fans are wondering if they can expect to see the couple interact some more, or if the pair has called it quits after nearly five years together.
Fortunately, Outsider reports that Stefani and Shelton are indeed still together. In her Today Show interview, Stefani admitted that she and Shelton continue to delay the wedding and are unsure when it is going to happen. Still, Stefani added, "the good news is that we still like each other a lot. That's good." It seems Stefani and Shelton are indeed still together, but it remains unclear what the future holds for the beloved couple.
Stefani's clarification was rather vague. After she and Shelton spent the entirety of their quarantine together at Shelton's Oklahoma ranch, it seems like a safe bet that they remain in love with one another. However, Stefani mostly avoided Kotb's line of questioning by laughing it off. Certainly, The Voice stars don't need to get married in order to legitimize their romance, but the ambiguity surrounding their relationship is likely to remain, even in the wake of Stefani discussing these rumors Monday morning.
The Voice season 19 is shaping up to be a unique season as it films amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. In other ways, however, the season should feel familiar to fans of the show, as Stefani's return reunites a classic crew of coaches. Her relationship with Shelton injected previous seasons with a unique degree of competitiveness, so regardless of where their relationship stands, fans can almost surely expect more of the same.
