Capcom Raises Profit Expectations Ahead Of Major Releases
Capcom announced that it has adjusted its profit expectations for the current fiscal year due to the success of some of its most recent titles alongside the excitement surrounding its upcoming major releases. One of Capcom's biggest upcoming titles of 2021, Monster Hunter Rise for the Nintendo Switch, is the first brand-new entry in the franchise to come to the console and is easily one of the most anticipated games of the year. In fact, the demo for MH Rise is currently available via the Switch eShop.
In spite of its recent victories, not everything is going too well for the video game publisher and developer. The company suffered a massive data breach last November that led to a lot of its confidential information being published online, including its supposed gaming lineup for the next four years. Capcom also revealed that the data breach may be much worse than it previously expected, as the personal data of over 16,0000 people from across its business partners, employees, and former staff may have been compromised in the hack.
Fortunately, Capcom’s sales look to have been more than great over the last year as the company has revealed changes to its earnings forecasts in a press release on its official website. According to the announcement, Capcom has increased its forecasted net sales by 7 billion yen, going from 85 billion to a whopping 92 billion. The company is also expecting to bring in 21 billion in profit, a 3 billion yen difference from its original forecast of 18 billion yen. Capcom has cited the release of Resident Evil 3 last year, the continued success of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, and the pre-release orders of Monster Hunter Rise as the biggest reasons for the change in its forecasts.
Additionally, Capcom mentioned that part of its increased forecast was due to the success of its recently-released Monster Hunter World pachislot machine. It has become so successful that the company now plans on releasing three new models in total rather than just the one they initially planned.
Capcom has seen a lot of success over the past few years with some of its biggest franchises such as Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, and Devil May Cry. And this year is looking like another year of big releases from the company. Those looking forward to the launch of the upcoming Resident Evil Village will have something to be excited about as Capcom is holding a showcase for the series today that is said to feature several announcements, one of which will finally hopefully be a better look at Resident Evil Village.
