Marvel: 10 Things We Already Know About The Loki Disney+ Series
Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been laid out in such a way that a new TV series arrives shortly after the previous one ends. Following WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki is set to be the third show, which debuts on June 11. It carries significant interest due to the titular character’s popularity and the show's intriguing premise.
The premise has to do with Loki’s dalliance with the Time Variance Authority and the adventures that follow. The God of Mischief will step into a leading role for the first time without his brother Thor or the usual supporting cast, so it’s best to recap on the things that are already known before checking out the Disney+ show.
10 Loki Will Start The Series As A Villain
By the start of the series, Loki will be at his absolute worst. That’s because this is the version straight after the events of The Avengers, meaning he’s the same person who conducted the killings of thousands of people on Earth.
Loki only became a full-fledged “good guy” in Thor: Ragnarok, with this version several years younger than the villainous one. This means the Loki that fans have come to see as something of antihero isn’t present and the Disney+ series will feature a villainous Loki as the main character.
9 The Time Variance Authority Has Intervened Due To Loki's Escape
There have already been plenty of memes about the banter between Loki and Mobius but it’s actually serious business in-universe. As revealed in the show’s teasers, the main reason that Loki has been reined in is due to his escape in Avengers: Endgame.
Loki didn’t just evade captivity; he ended up changing the course of time itself since he was fated to die at the hands of Thanos as the original version of Loki did in Avengers: Infinity War. Due to this, the Time Variance Authority has taken matters into its own hands.
8 Loki Is Going To Fix Timelines
As it turned out, the majority of fan theories were indeed true and Loki will be a series that takes place across time. The Time Variance Authority has picked this version of Loki since he’s an anomaly and isn’t supposed to exist outside of his timeline.
In order to make use of him, the TVA will dispatch Loki in different timelines of Earth that the God of Mischief will need to fix. This is the basis for the show’s storyline and any other developments will carry forward from here.
7 There Will Be Many Forms Of Loki
Loki has made illusions of himself several times over the course of the series but the character’s shapeshifting has been downplayed so far. According to Tom Hiddleston, the Disney+ series logo is indicative of Loki’s shapeshifting nature.
The TV show will feature the titular character taking on many different forms, meaning there will definitely be instances where viewers will be fooled into believing a character is someone else, only for it to turn out to be Loki in disguise.
6 The Infinity Stones Still Exist In This Timeline
Avengers: Endgame took the Infinity Stones out of the main universe, which was a big change from what was established in Phase One. In Loki’s case, however, the Infinity Stones still exist since this story is set within an alternate timeline.
As Loki will be captured from 2012 where The Avengers was set, the Tesseract will be brought along with him. Since the Time Variance Authority can tap into different timelines, the Infinity Stones are still around within this series.
5 It Is A Blend Of Science Fiction And Crime Thriller
The Phase Four TV shows have all been different in terms of genre. Where WandaVision was a blend of sitcom and fantasy, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier a buddy cop political thriller, and Loki is a blend of science-fiction and crime thriller.
The sci-fi aspect comes from the time travel backdrop, as the titular character will be using the Time Variance Authority’s technology to hop into different timelines. The crime thriller portion comes from the consequences of Loki’s dabbling with time and the forces that now pursue him.
4 The Vote Loki Comics Will Be Adapted
The Vote Loki comics was a series that saw the titular character decide to run for the President of the United States as a way to prove that he could easily lie his way into ascending to the presidency. The MCU may not fully adapt this storyline from the comics, but it definitely will be seeing some shape and form.
Loki has already been shown in the same costume he wore in Vote Loki, complete with his intention to run a presidential campaign. This will most likely be a trick by the God of Mischief to steal focus in the Disney+ series but the general outline is set to be adapted.
3 There Will Be A Second Season
Fans have been somewhat dismayed by Disney’s reluctance to move forward with additional seasons to WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but they have good reason to rejoice in the matter of Loki because more is to follow.
The second season of the series has already been confirmed before the release of the first. This means that while the story of the first season will have its own importance, there will be additional adventures of the trickster god to arrive in the future that will open up new storylines.
2 One Of The Themes Is Friendship
Loki’s main attribute has been his tendency to betray everyone and it’s gotten so well-known that it will be mentioned in the TV show as well. However, director Kate Herron has stated that the theme of friendship is going to be explored in the series.
The most obvious candidate is Mobius, who is set to be partnered with Loki during the story. Despite Loki’s decade-long stay in the MCU, he’s never shown to have had a friend and the Disney+ series is set to address this.
1 It Ties Into The Doctor Strange Sequel
It looks like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be Phase Four’s equivalent of Captain America: Civil War, as it’s set to be connected to WandaVision, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it’s been confirmed that Loki will follow suit.
It’s not very difficult to imagine why, as Loki will be dealing with multiple timelines and realities, tying into the Doctor Strange sequel’s multiverse theme. Although Loki’s own appearance is unconfirmed as of yet, the show’s events are relevant to the events of the Doctor Strange movie.
