Thought The Producers was gash. Satire is meant to be clever. Zero Mostel gives off more ham than any actor this side of Akim Tarimoff. Gene Wilder's occasional primal scream is just irritating. The whole ethos of the thing fails as well; surely the satire should be that Springtime For Hitler should be a really GOOD musical that the audience takes as being satirical rather than a godawfully BAD one? First rule of comedy, Spike; you've got to have reality. Within that film universe NOBODY could think that Springtime For Hitler was any good.
Best musicals I've seen are:
Hamilton (it's almost cliché to say but it really is worth the hype)
Rocky Horror (obviously)
Our Ladies Of Perpetual Succour (I saw some walk out because of the scabrous language, but it is brilliant, funny, poignant, tragic, and it more or less opens with "Mr Blue Sky")
[eta: not our Spike]
