Re: Here we go again – or do we?
TattsI've said before that Zola was one of the nicest guys I have ever met in football, for someone of his world class (?) talent and he so, so desperately wanted it to work. He made mistakes but the environment was not right, either. Yes, some of us got carried away (me included I will admit) and maybe if he/they had gone slower in trying to change it all, it might have been better.
It is tough on John Eustace. You can see what he's done to the side and how he would like it to evolve. I've said the team is a work in progress and Wayne Rooney will inherit a far more stable situation, at a better run club than it was back in Zola's time, which leads me to believe the same outcome won't occur.
There will be a lot of pressure on Rooney and I don't think he's the managerial dolt some are making him out to be.
The optics on the change aren't great, due to the last two wins and performances, particularly against Huddersfield. I suspect Blues just had to wait for DC United's play-off fate to be known, as it was widely accepted Rooney's contract was not being renewed. That came to pass after these back to back wins....
It's a big call by Blues and time will tell. Certainly for me, it marks a new phase in their ownership: they are showing their ruthlessness and ambition levels, expectations, are going to go up a notch or two.
I think we all expected that the new owners would want their own man, I just don't think anyone thought it would be a) when we were doing well, and b) it would be Wayne Rooney
Agree with what you say about the environment being more stable which should allow Rooney to settle quicker....
