Re: Open House
Snoopphilly_bluenoseRagsThat's great. I had wondered whether the city's financial challenges would have been a barrier. My question would probe about whether the plan is getting sufficient support (or resistance) from the local authorities and Westminster.
Given TW's response, he'd probably give a very careful answer.
I'll forgive you asking that as you're not local ... but BCC are massively massively behind this and have opened so many doors and helped so much through.
Just one example on the Stadium ... it was never offered to general sale. Then planning committee pre-meets and agreed to make everything unanimous.
It may not have been the best deal commercially that BCC could get - maybe they should have split it into separate lots - but it was definitely the best for the city - and the Concil recognised that
It helps that it is all in an area that WMCA and BCC have targeted for redevelopment and commercial growth to bring in extra revenue in the mid to long term. So cash in the short term and the promise of more business rates in the longer term.
This..
I know (actually know rather than blindly speculate)that BCC have been very supportive of this project.
They could have taken a different path that would, in the short to medium term helped them.out of their current travails. They have seen beyond that and can see a legacy for the city in the making.
There is a bigger game being played here and well done to BCC for taking the longer view.
