Insider Attack Kills 11 Afghan Security Forces in Baghlan, Afghan Security forces suffer heavy casualties in Kunduz

Reports say that insurgents first attacked a checkpoint near the base, and then infiltrated inside the compound with ease due to the assumed connection they had inside the base. 

Mabobullah Ghafari, a provincial councilman in Baghlan province, provided the details where the attack took place. The same report was briefed by a local police officer, who spoke about the attack on condition of anonymity. 

An insider attack is not a new tactic of targeting Afghan security forces. Over the last 18 years, insurgent groups have used this coward strategy killing Afghan national forces, US servicemen as well as NATO forces across the country. 

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for Monday’s attack on the outskirts of Puli Khumri, the provincial city of Baghlan. However, the Taliban militants have a prominent presence in the area and frequently target the Afghan security forces. 

The brutal insider attack took place on Tuesday as the US representatives and the Taliban leadership are currently negotiating on the deduction of violence or a ceasefire in Doha Qatar.

Reports say the attack took place at a joint security forces base in Dasht-e-Archi district on Tuesday night, which caused the death of 14 soldiers and a police officer, and at least another 15 wounded, including three local police members. 

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, whereas Afghan security forces have not commented about the assault and how the attack took place. 

“This assault follows the attack which took place in Baghlan province on Monday night, as a result of which some nine police officers were brutally killed in the hands of Taliban fighters”, said the security source. 

Ironically enough, the Taliban fighters have increased their attacks, particularly in the north of the country on government forces over the last couple of days. 

Afghan analysts, politicians and civic group condemns the latest attacks on Afghan security forces, and label Taliban militants as “hypocrites” who have never been faithful to their commitments.
