U.S. Senators Request Legal Action Against Those Destroying U.S. History , Propose Legislation: Veterans’ Memorial Preservation Act: U. S. Marshall Service Rounding up Vandals

Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) will introduce the Washington-Grant Historic Preservation Act, which would amend the Veterans’ Memorial Preservation Act to provide for a one-year mandatory minimum for those who injure or destroy monuments dedicated to our most gallant American heroes.

“Vandals are defacing and tearing down of statues of our esteemed forefathers such as George Washington and Ulysses S. Grant with reckless abandon. At a minimum they should face one year in prison for this crime,” said Cotton.

Senator Kennedy also weighed in:

Sens. John Kennedy (R-La.) sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr asking the Department of Justice to prosecute individuals who deface or dismantle public monuments or statues to the fullest extent of the law.

The rising ‘cancel culture’ movement is fundamentally coercive. . . . Given the present danger the mob poses to individual Americans, common sense, and common decency, I call upon you to vigorously prosecute all those who have appropriated the banner of peaceful protest to carry out violent illegal acts,” wrote Kennedy.

Citing President James Madison’s warning against the destructive nature of mob rule, Kennedy continued, That is precisely why America’s system of government is wedded to various checks and balances and a broad division of power: so the impassioned few cannot override the reasonable majority. This is also why any justice system worth its salt has consequences for criminal actions.”

Senator Kennedy Offered to AG Barr to introduce more legislation if needed to put a stop to the destruction of our US history.

If you feel these and other laws already in existence do not provide adequate legal authority to bring justice to these criminals and their victims, I would be glad to introduce legislation to solve that problem. If we care about America’s next generation, we cannot let violent criminal actions go unpunished. What we allow today is what will continue tomorrow,” Kennedy concluded

The Federal U.S. Marshall Service of the Department of Justice’s primary function was to support the federal courts. The Marshals and their Deputies served the subpoenas, summonses, writs, warrants and other process issued by the courts, made all the arrests and handled all the prisoners. They also disbursed the money.. In effect, they ensured that the courts functioned smoothly.

In the 1980’s the U.S. Marshals Service inaugurated the use Fugitive Investigative Strike Teams, referred as FIST operations, to capture violent fugitives that were wanted by Federal and local law enforcement agencies.

Currently, he Marshall Service is helping enforce the recent Presidential EO backed by Statutes that criminalize the destruction of public property.

20 June The U.S. Marshals are searching for a Minnesota man and woman wanted as persons of interest by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in the investigation of several St. Paul, Minnesota, fires during the recent unrest. ATF is offering two rewards of up to $10,000 each for information that leads to the apprehension and conviction of the two individuals.

Jose Felan Jr., 33, a felon with multiple convictions, including drug offenses, burglary and aggravated assault, was captured on video igniting fires at numerous locations in St. Paul, to include at a high school that serves disadvantaged youth. His accomplice, Mena Dyaha Yousif, 31, is believed to be helping Felan evade police.

“The U.S. Marshals are working closely with ATF and all our federal, state and local partners to apprehend those that choose to violate the safety and security of our communities,” said U.S. Marshal Mona Dohman of the District of Minnesota. “We are calling on anyone with information on the whereabouts of Felan and Yousif to contact us immediately.”

The couple is believed to have traveled south from Minnesota, possibly to Mexico. Yousif, who appears to be noticeably pregnant, is known to have worn disguises while on the run, including wigs, hair extensions, hats and the absence of a hijab.

20 June The U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) announced today the arrest of Dramerius Jeffries who was wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants charging him with crimes such as Arson, Inciting a Riot, Reckless Conduct, Criminal Damage to Property, Willful Obstruction to Law Enforcement, and Use of Threats or Violence. Jeffries was arrested on Wednesday June 25, 2020, at an apartment complex in Atlanta, GA.

The U. S. Marshals received a request for assistance from the Atlanta Police Department concerning Jeffries on June 4. Included in the request for assistance were numerous photos of Jeffries standing on top of a burning Atlanta Police car brandishing a stolen Atlanta Police riot shield and standing on top of the defaced CNN sign. The Officers who witnessed him committing the felonies were unable to arrest him at the scene as Jeffries was surrounded by a violent mob.

Jim Joyner, Commander of the task force, stated “We are particularly happy to have been asked for assistance by the Atlanta Police Department with this case. If needed discussions and conversations between the community and law enforcement are to be had, acts such as what Jeffries is charged with only impede them. Like the peaceful protesters, I pray that justice will be served by our system in the George Floyd case. A Judge and Jury will decide what that justice is. I would hope the peaceful protesters pray for the same in this case. The crimes that Jeffries is charged with unrightfully taint the message of those peaceful protesters.”.

The U. S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) was created by the Presidential Threat Protection Act of 2000. Congress recognized the U. S. Marshals expertise in tracking and apprehending dangerous fugitives and ordered the creation of regional fugitive task forces (RFTFs) in core cities throughout the country. Via this mandate, SERFTF was created in 2003 and has offices in Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah to assist state, county, and local agencies as a central investigative base to identify, locate and apprehend dangerous offenders.
