China, India leaders in Moscow agree to full disengagement of frontline forces

China has accused Indian troops of violating Chinese sovereignty at the Line of Control (LOC) at the southern bank of the Pangong Tso Lake and near the Reqin Mountain.

India disputes the Chinese claim of sovereignty And accuses of China of inching in on the official border claimed by the Chinese as their designated border.

Skirmishes have been ongoing for years and occasional settlements calm the situation down, with the latest agreement being in June 2020.

Deadly clashes at Galwan Valley, with soldiers fighting hand to hand or with improvised clubs, killed 20 Indian soldiers and an undisclosed number of Chinese, 

  After weeks of accusations, the parties agree to a disengagement for now. Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe met with his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh and urged the Indian side to jointly ease tensions and safeguard the peace and stability of the China-Indian border.

The two senior officials were meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Moscow.

Wei said both India and China should abide by the consensus reached by their leaders and solve problems via dialogue and consultation. India should strengthen management and control of its frontline troops and not make provocations or deliberately hype and spread negative information.

Wei also reaffirmed to Singh China’s commitment and ability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity in the meeting.

He told his Chinese counterpart that India agrees to work toward full disengagement of frontline forces as soon as possible and push the relations between the two countries and armies back on track.

Sep. 8 — Indian troops illegally crossed the Line of Actual Control (LAC) into the Shenpaoshan area on the southern bank of the Pangong Lake in the western section of the China-India border on September 7,

The Indian troops brazenly made gunshot threat to the patrolling troops of PLA frontier defense force who came forwards for negotiations, and the Chinese border guards were forced to take countermeasures to control and stabilize the situation.

”We demand the Indian side to immediately stop dangerous actions, withdraw cross-line troops right away, strictly restrain its frontline troops, earnestly investigate and punish the personnel who fired shots, and guarantee against the occurrence of similar incidents,” Zhang urged.
