14 Year Air Force National Guard Veteran Killed in Capitol
Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee reported four dead over 50 arrests in Capital protest 6 January.
Ashli Babbitt, 14 year Air Force Veteran, was shot by Capital police. Husband Aaron Babbitt said Ashli of San Diego, spent 14 years in the military between the Air Force and the D.C. National Guard. Fox News:
“She loved her country and she was doing what she thought was right to support her country, joining up with like-minded people that also love their president and their country,” he said.
Babbitt added, “She was voicing her opinion and she got killed for it.”
Members of the House and Senate, along with Vice President Mike Pence, who was presiding over the certification session, were evacuated. Lawmakers and staff were told to find cover, lock doors and stay away from windows. VOA reported, adding:
By 1:30 p.m., U.S. Capitol Police were telling people in a House of Representatives office building and an adjacent Library of Congress building to evacuate. Just after 2 p.m., alerts went out about “an external security threat located on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol Building,” followed soon by another alert signaling a “security threat inside the building.”
Evidence does not show that Babbitt was threatening to shoot anyone. Reports are she was shot in the back. An investigation has been provided with many videos and we await updates.
Lawmakers such as Senator Chris Murphy taken out for safety condemned the protestors, requesting investigation: Peaceful protest is deeply patriotic. Insurrection is sedition, and those that are taking part today in the attempted takeover of the Capitol, including the destruction and desecration of our nation’s temple of democracy, will be held accountable.
Many lawmakers were calling for Trump impeachment although he requested a peaceful protest. “ I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”
One lawmaker had already drafted legislation the previous day:
Republicans derided the hypocrisy of reactions to the protests by those who supported months of BLM protests and violence.
Mayor Muriel Bowser ordered a citywide curfew for the District of Columbia from 6 pm on Wednesday, January 6, until 6 am on Thursday, January 7. “I have issued Mayor’s Order 2021-003, extending the public emergency declared earlier today for a total of 15 days, until and unless provided for by further Mayoral Order.”
