Gov Abbot Texas Deploys National Guardsmen to border, Urges that Cartels be designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations
Gov Abbott:
Terrorists and cartels are coming across the border. But, no one at The White House is on the ground taking responsibility for this crisis. I sent @TexasGuard & @TxDPS to help secure the border. It’s time for Biden to step up & take charge.
Border Patrol agents in Texas picked up three convicted child sex offenders among groups of illegal immigrants in just two days. Biden’s border policies are getting more dangerous by the day. That’s why I sent National Guard to help secure the border.
Gov. Abbott has repeatedly requested that the Biden Administration address the border crisis it created. His latest letter urges President Biden, Vice President Harris To Designate Mexican Drug Cartels As Foreign Terrorist Organizations

Governor Greg Abbott today sent a letter to President Joe Biden and Vice President and Border Czar Kamala Harris encouraging the federal government to designate Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. The Governor included a background document detailing how these drug cartels clearly meet the three-part test required for the designation.
“As Governor of Texas, I urge you to take immediate action to combat the dangerous and deadly Mexican drug cartels,” reads the Governor’s letter. “These cartels bring terror into our communities. They smuggle narcotics and weapons into the United States to fund their illegal enterprises. They force women and children into human and sex trafficking—enriching themselves on the misery and enslavement of immigrants. They murder innocent people, including women and children. These Mexican drug cartels are foreign terrorist organizations, and it is time for the federal government to designate them as such.”
This is the fourth letter that Governor Abbott has sent to the Biden Administration regarding the humanitarian crisis at the southern border. The questions and concerns addressed in the previous letters have thus far gone unanswered by President Biden and Vice President Harris.
At the end of March Gov Abbot wrote to VP Harris: “Now that President Biden has named you Border Czar in charge of the administration’s response, I want to express to you the threats and challenges caused by this administration’s open border policies,” said Governor Abbott. “These policies embolden and enrich cartels, smugglers, and human traffickers who continue to ramp up their criminal operations. Given your new role as the administration’s Border Czar, I urge you to visit the border to see the crisis for yourself, and I implore the Biden administration to take swift action to secure the border, crack down on human trafficking, and prevent more children from being trafficked and abused.”
in February Gov Abbot met with DHS Chief Colonel McCraw to discuss a recent surge of immigrants at Texas’ southern border and noted that this influx is related to the Biden Administration’s reinstatement of the ‘catch and release’ policy. The leaders discussed health and safety concerns related to this policy, including the potential spread of COVID-19 and the evolving threat of drug cartels. Governor Abbott and Colonel McCraw concluded the meeting with a discussion on strategies and solutions to mitigate the influx of immigrants at the border and keep Texas communities safe.
The Governor has previously deployed National Guard troops to the border in 2019 and earlier as Congress and DHS and Administration have been unable or unwilling to take control.
