Jamie O’Hara has criticised the performance of Davinson Sanchez in Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday night, claiming he was ‘like a rabbit in the headlights’.
Spurs were second best against Thomas Tuchel’s side as they were beaten 2-0 in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge.
The performance was largely an unconvincing one from the visitors, who were immediately on the back foot when Japhet Tanganga’s loose pass turned into a Chelsea counter-attack which was converted by Kai Havertz.
Sanchez, who has emerged as one of Antonio Conte’s preferred central defenders, attempted to deal with the German midfielder’s effort but could only see the ball rebound off him into the net.
The strike after five minutes would only set Spurs up for an uphill battle for the rest of the encounter, with the Colombian’s lack of confidence to play out from defence often pounced upon by Chelsea’s attackers.
After the defeat, former Spurs midfielder O’Hara took to Twitter to share his displeasure and was ultimately left unimpressed by Sanchez’s display.

In fairness to Sanchez, he couldn’t do that much about Chelsea’s opening goal considering it was at really close range. He also wasn’t suited to the central centre-back role in Eric Dier’s absence so that left his ability on the ball very exposed. He needs to be reverted to the wider centre-back positions to accommodate that.
