Paddy Kenny has claimed Wolves forward Adama Traore could ‘explode’ in a wing-back role if he joins Tottenham this month.
The Spanish winger has been tipped to leave Molineux over the past year with talks of a new deal currently not on the table.
Tottenham made an approach to sign Traore in the summer following the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo, but saw their interest rebuffed after Wolves revealed their alleged £50 million asking price.
However, Spurs look set to re-enter negotiations with the West Midlands club, with reports suggesting Bruno Lage’s side could part ways with Traore for as little as £20 million this month.
Reports have also claimed that Spurs boss Antonio Conte could look to deploy the 25-year-old at right wing-back as opposed to an advanced position.
As such, former goalkeeper Kenny feels Traore hasn’t got the quality needed to play further forward and believes a switch of position could benefit him in the long run.
He told Football Insider: “Playing as a wing-back may be the best thing for Traore. He doesn’t have that much on an end product in my opinion. His goal and assist record isn’t as good as you would think.
“Obviously he is massive, he’s so well built so that suits a defender. He’s also lightning quick to go along with the muscle.
“I can see him at Tottenham and if Conte wants him, you have to trust him. He could explode onto the scene at Tottenham if he gets a bit of confidence and has quality players around him.
“I think that’s a really interesting move.”

Traore does have a lot to offer that hasn’t been fully utilised yet, but Conte could definitely get the most out of him as a wing-back. He has the tools necessary to be a really solid option there, it’s just the final ball that has often been missing throughout his career.
