Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Ajax’s pursuit of Steven Bergwijn has come to an end and the winger will remain at Tottenham beyond the transfer deadline.
Bergwijn, 24, has been heavily linked with a move worth £20 million back to the Eredivisie in recent weeks (Ekrem Konur).
As such, the Mirror also suggested on Sunday that Tottenham would be keen on offloading the Netherlands international ahead of Monday’s 11 pm deadline.
However, a move is now said to be off the cards according to Romano, who claims an agreement with Spurs and Ajax has ultimately not been reached.
The Italian journalist states a deal is no longer on the table, with Ajax unwilling to match Tottenham’s €25 million asking price.
Romano added that Spurs boss Antonio Conte has also elected to keep the winger for attacking reinforcements, with his stellar cameo in the 3-2 win against Leicester likely still fresh in the mind.
It’s over for Steven Bergwijn to Ajax. Deal’s not gonna happen as Tottenham want €25m and Antonio Conte prefers to keep the player.

Spurs Web Opinion
This is pretty good news for Spurs as they are keeping a player that can have a good impact – even from the bench if needed. He has shown that he has talent, but it hasn’t been fully realised yet, so hopefully with more games under Conte will see some improvement.
