Tanguy Ndombele has claimed he ‘needed something else’ after leaving Tottenham to join Lyon on loan but admits he could still play in North London on his return next season.
Ndombele rejoined his former side on deadline day on a short-term deal until the end of the season having been made available by Spurs throughout January (Sky Sports).
Crucially, the deal for the Frenchman has a buy option worth €65 million (£54.1m) which could be exercised by Lyon at the end of term (The Athletic).
Ndombele struggled for the majority of his two-and-a-half-year stint at Spurs since securing a move in 2019 and was often overlooked by those in the club’s dugout.
Current head coach Antonio Conte has been the latest to turn his nose up at the 25-year-old, having allegedly questioned his commitment and work ethic (The Guardian).
On his move back to Ligue 1, Ndombele has since claimed that he needed a change of scenery away from N17 but refused to rule out playing for Spurs again next season.
He said (via Fabrizio Romano): “I had five different managers at Tottenham. I needed something else – but I still belong to Tottenham, I may still play there next year.”

With a move away, hopefully, this will do Ndombele the world of good when it comes to getting himself back on track. It could be a win-win for Spurs if he does do well at Lyon, though, as they will either be able to get back a player in form, or a good amount of money for a transfer.
