Antonio Conte has revealed that Harry Kane has improved his ability to contest duals with opposing centre-backs while holding the ball up.
Kane now looks back to his best in front of goal, with the striker’s brace against Brighton bringing his goal tally to 15 in all competitions (Transfermakrt).
The Athletic revealed this week that the England captain has himself been surprised by how quickly his physical condition and sharpness has improved in the little over three months he has worked with Conte and his coaching staff.
The report also provided the numbers behind the striker’s improvement, revealing that he is now averaging 4.3 shots and 1.7 shots on target per 90 minutes under Conte, compared to just 2.3 shots and 1.2 on target under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Conte insisted that we are now seeing Kane having more of an impact in the number nine role while not compromising his ability to influence games by dropping deep.
The Spurs boss told Football.London: “For sure, for sure it is not simple [to improve Kane].
“It is not easy to improve a player of this level but at the same time, I think that Harry I think is improving a lot in his position because I think in this moment with us he is playing much more like a number nine.
“In the past, I have seen him a lot, often to go outside and I think that Harry into the box, he is very good outside because he is also a number 10 and he has this quality to pass the ball and to make an assist but at the same time to [shoot] and to score.”
Conte also insisted that the 28-year-old is becoming a much more rounded number nine and is now a better target man than he was previously.
He added: “I think that he has improved a lot in his position to be also a number nine, a strong number nine and I think he is improving a lot in the duels with his opponent, to defend the ball and in my opinion, he is becoming a complete player, 120 per cent.
“He is a player that in this moment he can play in every team of the world and to be the striker.”

Conte has shown in the past that he is capable of bringing the best out of forwards. Kane is a perfect fit for the Italian’s set-up as the 28-year-old is a selfless striker, who is willing to work hard for the team rather than just saving energy to maximise his impact in front of goal as is the case with a few other world-class forwards.
