TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that Lazio have expressed an interest in signing Pierluigi Gollini when the transfer window reopens in the summer but the goalkeeper could extend his stay with the Lilywhites.
Golllini joined Spurs on a season-long loan deal from Atalanta in the summer, with the Premier League club having the option to sign the goalkeeper on a permanent basis for £13m (Sky Sports).
However, the Italian has found opportunities to be few and far between this season, having not featured in a single Premier League game to date.
Italian publication Citta Celeste claimed last month that the 26-year-old is not happy with his lack of game time in North London and is ‘determined to leave’ the club at the end of his loan spell.
The report further added that Tottenham had no plans of activating the clause to sign the Italy international permanently.
TMW have now revealed that Lazio are keen on snapping up Gollini in the summer, with Maurizio Sarri wanting to upgrade between the posts for next season.
The report claims that the Serie A club have already contacted the on-loan Atalanta star’s representatives over a move.
However, it is stated that Gollini ‘could remain’ at Tottenham as Hugo Lloris’ understudy next season.
Spurs Web Opinion
The only way I see Gollini remaining at Tottenham is if Atalanta agree to extend his loan deal or potentially sell the 26-year-old for a much lower fee than the release clause.
I do not think there is any chance of Spurs paying £13m for a backup goalkeeper.
I also suspect that Gollini would prefer to move elsewhere and be the number one rather than continuing to serve as Lloris’ understudy.
