Micah Richards has heaped praise on Son Heung-min, insisting that Harry Kane would not be as effective without the South Korean’s runs off the ball.
Son has been the player to put Manchester City to the sword time and again through his Spurs career but it was Kane who was the star of the show for Tottenham on Saturday, netting two goals against the very team who tried to sign him last summer (Sun).
Apart from his goals, the 28-year-old also showcased his exceptional vision and passing range, picking out the runs of Son and Dejan Kulusevski in behind the City backline.
Son set up Kulusevski’s opener after getting on the end of a through ball from Kane and also created Tottenham’s second goal as his cross was met on the half-volley by the England captain.
That goal meant the Spurs pair had equalled Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba’s record of combining for 36 goals in the Premier League (Goal.com).
Richards told The Monday Night Club on BBC 5 Live Sport: “We talk about Harry Kane but he can’t do what he does without Son. Son running in behind was absolutely exceptional”.
Spurs Web Opinion
Son is arguably the best in the world at timing his runs to get in behind the opposition’s backline. The South Korean’s acceleration and his understanding with Kane, makes him a nightmare to defend against. We as Spurs fans are certainly privileged to be watching the two together.
