Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League fixture against Leeds United at lunchtime.
Lawrenson admitted that he was somewhat surprised by Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat at Burnley on Wednesday evening which halted the hope of any turnaround in recent fortunes following the impressive 3-2 win at Manchester City last weekend.
A top-four finish is still within Tottenham’s ability, however any hope of a return to the Champions League is slipping through their fingers having suffered a fourth defeat in their past five Premier League matches
Similar to Tottenham, Leeds have also lost four of their past five league matches, including a 6-0 hammering at the hands of title chasing Liverpool on Wednesday.
The 64-year-old expects Tottenham to return to winning ways at Elland Road with a much-needed victory against Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Antonio Conte is without Rodrigo Bentancur, who picked up an ankle issue at Burnley and joins Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga on the sidelines.
Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “Both sides had very poor results in midweek. I saw the Leeds one coming because of their injuries and the fact they were going to Anfield – but Tottenham’s defeat at Burnley was much more of a surprise.
“Spurs have now lost four of their past five league games and it was typical Tottenham to see them go to Manchester City and win the way they did on Saturday, then follow it up with such a limp display on a wet and windy Wednesday at Turf Moor.
“Leeds have bigger problems, though. You can’t play the way they do against Liverpool and expect to get away with it, but they just don’t have a Plan B.
I’m expecting a reaction from Spurs, but I don’t think Leeds can do anything different, especially with Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips still out injured, which is why they have been dragged into a relegation scrap.”

Anything less than a victory against Leeds would prove to be a fatal blow to our top four hopes and once again likely cause plenty of negative spotlight to be directed at the north London club following Conte’s outburst at Burnley.
The club needs unity and the players need to perform a significant amount better than what they showed at Turf Moor with some very poor marking from set pieces.
