Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Antonio Conte has asked the Tottenham hierarchy to ‘immediately’ start working on transfer targets for the summer transfer window.
Tottenham’s two new additions in January – Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentantcur – have both made fine starts to life in North London.
However, as Spurs’ recent performances and results have shown, the North Londoners seemingly need more reinforcements to close the gap with the best teams in the Premier League.
Some reports have indicated (The Athletic) following Conte’s outburst on Wednesday (Football.London), that the Italian is not expected to be in charge of the Lilywhites next season.
However, Romano has now revealed that the Tottenham head coach had talks with the Tottenham hierarchy to clear the air and to plan for the future.
The journalist revealed that while the 52-year-old has no intention of leaving Spurs, he made it clear to the club that he has to be backed when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “I am told that Conte has no intention to leave the club. But he wants Tottenham, immediately, to focus on the future.
“It means to work on transfers for the summer, to decide what kind of players should leave and be confirmed. What the targets should be, if there’s some opportunities on the free-agent market.
“He wants the whole club to change the mentality. He wants a winning mentality and this is what the players love, they love that he wants to win. And the club knows that to continue with Conte, they need to go with him.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Daniel Levy knows that Conte walking will likely turn the whole Spurs fan base against him and the Spurs chairman would thus want to do everything in his power to keep the Italian happy. That is why I am convinced that the club will spend big in the summer to appease Conte.
