Antonio Conte has admitted that it is important for everyone around Tottenham to be ambitious for the rest of the season, including himself and Harry Kane.
When asked whether qualifying for the Champions League by finishing in the top four would help to keen Kane at the club, Conte refused to be drawn into the narrative but instead claimed Spurs need to finish in ‘the best possible position for everybody’.
Tottenham are currently down in eighth, six points below Arsenal, having also played a game more than their North London rivals.
After the transfer saga of last summer, Kane has already been linked to Manchester City (The Sun), Manchester United (Mirror), and Newcastle United (GiveMeSport) ahead of the next window.
90 min have claimed that Kane is now pushing for an exit from Tottenham in the summer after the club fell short again this season.
However, Fabrizio Romano reported recently that Kane is enjoying his time with Conte and his Spurs future may depend on Italian remaining in N17 (Here We Go podcast – starting at 16:34).
In fact, the Spurs striker told Sky Sports this week that he thinks Conte could get Spurs back fighting for titles.
Asked about the top four and whether it could help keep Kane at Spurs, Conte said (Football London): “I think that we need to finish in the best position possible for everybody, not only for Harry.
“It’s important for the ambition, for everybody, for the club, for me, for players like Kane and not only with words but with facts.
“To show, to have ambition, and this is the only thing I can say. Now we have 11 games and at the end then we will see, because we want to fight for something important, not just to participate, so I think many players don’t deserve that and I don’t deserve that, and the club don’t deserve that.
“In this moment I think it is not important to speak about the future. In this moment it is important to see the present because the present is more important in this moment.
“We have to go 11 games and to try to get the best in these 11 games and then we will see. In this moment it is important to be focused on the present and we have a lot of time to sit around the table and then to speak about everything.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
If Tottenham got Champions League, there is no way I see Conte or Kane leaving. If Spurs fall short, it will all depend on whether the club back Conte in the transfer market enough to convince both men that top four and trophies can be achieved next season.
