Antonio Conte has claimed he would be crazy to drop Heung-min Son from his Tottenham team.
Son has tallied strong numbers this season and is only trailing Mohamed Salah in terms of goal contributions, who has been imperious for title-challengers Liverpool (BBC).
But the South Korea international has looked somewhat fatigued in recent games on the back of a hamstring injury which ruled him out for around a month.
His most recent display in Spurs’ 3-2 defeat to Manchester United saw him fail to make anything stick going forward, while his general play on the ball seemingly lacked confidence.
But Conte has now made it clear that Son’s place in the fold is not currently at risk and he believes he would be mad to consider starting him on the bench.
He said (via Football.London): “For me, Sonny is an important player. A player who can move a result in the end.
“It can happen that a player can be in not the best form or a period that he’s not playing so well, because we’re talking a player who plays every game, but for me, he is playing well and that doesn’t depend if a player scores a goal or not.
“For me, it’s about their performance totally. Sonny is a player in my thoughts and in my plan and that’s also for his commitment.
“So he has to start. I don’t have an idea to drop him. Honestly, no. It doesn’t happen. I’m not crazy to do something like this.”
Spurs travel to Brighton on Wednesday evening looking to try and close down the six-point gap between themselves and Arsenal for that final Champions League place.

Son’s form has been very strange as of late and it could very much be down to fatigue. Regardless of his recent performances, he still offers a strong attacking presence alongside Harry Kane and taking that away will likely hinder the team more than anything.
