Eric Dier has praised the aggressiveness of Tottenham teammate Cristian Romero and feels he is the ideal profile of player for Antonio Conte’s defensive system.
Spurs were defensively sound as they secured a 3-1 win over West Ham on Sunday, with both Dier and Romero standing firm to keep their side in the top four hunt.
The pair have excelled upon their respective returns from injury under Conte and showed what Spurs missed during their spells on the sideline earlier this season.
Argentina international Romero was particularly effective against the Hammers as he marshalled the tricky Michail Antonio on the way to Tottenham’s victory over their London counterparts.
And Dier believes his teammate is epitomising what Spurs head coach Conte wants from his defensive line, as well as highlighting the efforts of Ben Davies to his left.
He said (via Football.London): “I think that Cuti, one of his best qualities is that he is very aggressive and he reads the game very well and the same for Ben as well.”
Romero joined Spurs last summer on loan from Atalanta, but it is expected that the club will exercise a £42.5 million option-to-buy clause in his contract at the end of the season (Daily Mail).
He has made 24 appearances in all competitions this term including nine consecutive starts in the Premier League on his return from an almost three-month-long hamstring problem (Transfermarkt).

Conte has figured his best defensive line and Dier and Romero are the first names to be included as part of the back three.
The pair have stepped up in recent games and have found a good working partnership, also with Davies, and have seemingly stopped the leaks at the moment.
The next issue is set-pieces that Spurs have had trouble dealing with all season, and that is something that all involved have to try and figure out going forward.
