Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Daniel Levy is disappointed Gareth Bale didn’t get to play in front of most Spurs fans when he returned to the club on loan during the 2020/21 campaign.
Bale’s return to North London did not prove to be the fairytale that Spurs fans would have hoped it to be, with the winger struggling to get regular starts under Jose Mourinho.
The Welshman still showed his quality in the final third, netting 16 goals in all competitions (Transfermarkt) but his relationship with Mourinho appeared quite strained (Guardian).
The 32-year-old did not get to play in front of a packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season, with the majority of the campaign being played behind closed doors due to the pandemic.
El Nacional claimed two months ago that Bale could return to Spurs for a third spell when his contract with Real Madrid runs out this summer.
However, this has been dismissed by the likes of The Evening Standard, who have reported that the winger could hang up his boots if Wales do not qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
Jones has now told GiveMeSport about Bale’s return to Spurs last season: “His (Levy’s) big disappointment with it was that most of the fans didn’t get to see him. That was his biggest disappointment over Bale’s return last time around.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I think most Spurs fans have the same disappointment regarding Bale. The atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would have been electric with the Welshman’s return and that could have potentially galvanised the club last season and led to a much better outcome than the eventual seventh-place finish that we managed.
