Tim Sherwood has claimed there is no chance of Son Heung-min leaving Tottenham Hotspur anytime soon.
While Harry Kane continues breaking records left, right and centre, Son himself boasts a brilliant goal scoring record for Spurs, which has gone a little under the radar.
With his hat-trick against Aston Villa on Saturday, the South Korean went past Eden Hazard’s Premier League goal tally despite playing 20 fewer games than the former Chelsea man (Daily Express).
The 29-year-old is not only closing in on the Premier League’s 100-club but he is also among the top ten highest goalscorers in Tottenham’s history (Worldfootball.net).
While there continues to be speculation linking Harry Kane with a move away from Tottenham (The Athletic), Sherwood pointed out that the same does not appear to be the case for Son, despite the performances he produces.
The former Spurs interim boss praised Daniel Levy for tying the forward down to a new contract last summer.
Sherwood told Matchday Live on Optus Sport (09/04/22): “We constantly hear it all the time ‘Harry Kane will he stay or will he go? We never hear it from Son. Why not?
“They have done brilliantly. Daniel Levy has tied him down to a very long contract, so I don’t think there is any chance of him leaving.
“He seems like he is happy at the football club and why shouldn’t he? They put him on the map. He was good at Hamburg. He played at Leverkusen. Then he has come to the Premier League and taken to it like a duck to water. He is absolutely fantastic.
“He’s a pleasure to be a Tottenham fan when you have a player like that in your squad. All the youngsters look up to him. He is a leader in that group. That’s what you need. He’s a credit.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Everybody is motivated by different things and with Son, it is clear that he cares as much about his Spurs legacy as he does about winning silverware. Winning one or two trophies with Tottenham will mean a lot more to the South Korean than winning several with the likes of City, which is why he was ready to commit his future to the club.
