Alasdair Gold has named Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence and Torino’s Stephane Singo as two right wing-back options Tottenham could make a move for this summer.
According to reports, Antonio Conte is keen on signing a new right wing-back in the summer, with the Spurs boss allegedly not convinced by Emerson Royal (The Sun).
The North London club allegedly had an offer rejected for Spence in the January transfer window (90min) and it was been suggested they could reignite their interest in the Boro youngster this summer (The Sunday Mirror – 3/4; page 71).
The 21-year-old, who has been outstanding on loan at Nottingham Forest this season, is expected to be available for £12m since his contract at the Riverside Stadium runs out in 2023 (The Evening Standard).
Gold has now confirmed that Fabio Partici has watched Spence in action this season and the Spurs managing director is also a fan of Singo, who has seven-goal contributions as a wing-back for Torino so far this season (Transfermarkt).
When asked on a Q&A in Football.London which right wing-back Spurs could go for this summer, the journalist responded: “Spurs like Djed Spence. Fabio Paratici went to watch him recently, along with Brennan Johnson.
“Spence certainly ticks the homegrown box and is a talented young defender with plenty of attacking potential.
“I think Doherty has done enough to suggest that when he returns to fitness he will remain next season as an experienced wing-back and, while Emerson Royal now has the chance to make his case in the seven matches ahead, I do wonder whether he suits Conte’s system enough.
“This summer could provide the opportunity for Spurs to get their money back as he’s a decent right-back, just not a wing-back, and there will be interest in him.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Spurs look at Stephane Singo, Torino’s 21-year-old right wing-back, who ticks a lot of boxes for Spurs, Paratici and Conte. Paratici likes a loan with an option to buy deal and I think he’ll be looking for plenty of those this summer.”

Doherty has shown over the past couple of months that he has the necessary attributes for the wing-back role. It is not like those performances have come completely out of the blue, given that the Republic of Ireland international thrived in the same role at Wolves.
So, I would be happy for us to sign a young up and coming right wing-back in the summer and keep Doherty around as an experienced option. A left wing-back is arguably a bigger priority as Reguilon does not seem to be a good fit for the role and we are yet to see Sessegnon string a couple of good performances together.
