Tottenham Hotspur missed their chance to go six clear in fourth this afternoon as they dropped three points at home to Brighton in a 1-0 defeat.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 6 – A few nervy moments passing around at the back, although not always Hugo’s fault. Although Brighton had some good chances, he wasn’t called into action much.

Emerson Royal – 5.5 – Struggled to progress the ball down the right side, until it reached a point where it seemed he was rarely passed to. Some decent defending at the back post when he needed to though and a vital last-ditch tackle to save a goal.

Cristian Romero – 7 – Not quite his normal aggressive self in the challenge and perhaps Spurs missed that in terms of turning the ball over quickly and breaking. Still some great defending in his own box though.

Eric Dier – 5.5 – Some of his cross-field passes were a little lacking today though and, while most of his defending was decent, he got sent by a drop of the shoulder for Brighton’s winner.

Ben Davies – 6 – Wasn’t able to get forward and underlap at all today. Did a decent job defensively but playing out from the back was not so easy today.

Sergio Reguilon – 5.5 – He was supposed to be playing left-wing-back but I think I saw him overlap once. The one time he did, he almost set up a Kane goal with a short-range header to the striker.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 5 – Looked way off the pace today, summed up by his early yellow card for a bit of a scissor challenge. Spurs missed his progressive passing into the forwards and wing-backs.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 5.5 – The Brighton midfield was just overwhelming on and off the ball. Hojbjerg was wasteful at times. He did have one moment of magic that almost assisted Reguilon for a goal, but beyond that he had little influence.

Dejan Kulusevski – 5 – Very lucky to not see red. Kulusevski’s vicious swinging elbow was probably enough to be sent off even without much contact. Strange as we haven’t seen this side of him before. Beyond that, he struggled to get involved and got taken off early.

Heung-min Son – 5.5 – Really struggled to get on the ball and influence the game with any meaning. Most of Spurs’ half chances fell to Son, but he preferred to take a touch rather than finishing first time today.

Harry Kane – 5.5 – Largely a spectator apart from one opportunity in the box where Cucurella stopped him from lashing one home. The times he did get the ball into feet, it just didn’t happen for Harry. Not his usual standards.

Substitutes: 

Lucas Moura – 5 – Came on and added a lot more energy to the attack but the final ball wasn’t quite there for him.

Harry Winks – 5 – Definitely added more energy than Bentancur was offering but no major influences.
