Here’s how we rated the Tottenham Hotspur players following the opening forty-five minutes of action against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Tottenham head into the break against Graham Potter’s side on the back of a poor first half by their own standards, having failed to pose any risk to the Seagulls with the score level at 0-0.
Hugo Lloris: Has had little to do, partly due to two good blocks from Kane and Davies, along with a late save from Mwepu which was straight at him. 6.
Emerson Royal: Has done ok on the right flank and has tried to run in behind the defence but is not getting the right service. 6.
Cristian Romero: Rarely tested by the Brighton forwards and has instead tried to start moves from the back along with Dier. 6.
Eric Dier: Has seen the ball more often than he would have liked, with many sideways passes to Romero due to the inability to break down the Seagulls. 6.
Ben Davies: Made a key block with his body to deny Mwepu’s goal-bound shot, moments later nearly gifted Brighton the lead when he played a ball back across the penalty area which Lloris managed to intercept. 6.
Sergio Reguilon Has been well marshalled by Lamptey. 5.
Rodrigo Bentancur: Had a slow start to the game by his standards, some passes have failed to reach his team-mates. Booked for a challenge on Bissouma. 5.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: Has struggled to get involved in the game due to Brighton’s dominance in midfield. 5.
Dejan Kulusevski: Risked a red card when he thrust his elbow towards Cucurella, fortunate to escape with a yellow, a sign of some frustration after a lack of involvement in the game. 5.
Heung-min Son: Switched off defensively when he failed to track Mac Allister from a corner, fortunately, the ball did not arrive at the Argentine’s feet. 6.
Harry Kane: Did well to block a shot in his own six-yard box after 22 minutes, has not been able to influence the game. 6.
