Tottenham Hotspur dropped points for the second week in a row this evening as they were held to a 0-0 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Hugo Lloris – 7 – Did his job well as his goal came under pressure more than Spurs would have hoped. Quick off his line to prevent one dangerous counter and made a few decent stops.
Emerson Royal – 5 – Looked pretty suspect defensively and offered extremely little going the other way. An all-round disappointing performance for a wing-back.
Cristian Romero – 8 – Defended well, pressed high and won the ball back plenty for Spurs. Unfortunately, the team struggled to win the second balls in the next phase. He was the one player preventing a Brentford goal for large parts.
Eric Dier – 6 – No complaints with Dier’s defending or leadership in that back line today. Did well in the air and in behind against tough opponents. But his passing out between the lines was all over the place.
Ben Davies – 6.5 – Looked decent at the back but wasted a couple of opportunities when underlapping on the break – the ball kept getting away from him.
Ryan Sessegnon – 5.5 – I was really impressed by his defending on the cover in behind in the first half, but he offered very little going forward where Spurs really needed him. Some of those crosses from the left were woeful.
Rodrigo Bentancur – 6 – He had a couple of nice passes around the corner in the early exchanges but struggled to find many meaningful balls between the lines after that.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 5 – Hojbjerg seemed to want an eternity on the ball in midfield today and kept getting his pocket picked. Really unlike him and it put Spurs under all kinds of pressure.
Dejan Kulusevski – 6 – Kulusevski cut an isolated figure out on the right. After his good performances, teams are starting to get right in his face and doubling up on him. He will have to adjust and get used to that.
Heung-min Son – 7 – Tottenham’s one bright spark in attack and the only player who was able to turn and drive at the Brentford defence. Still didn’t quite happen for him though and some of his deliveries simply needed to be better.
Harry Kane – 5 – Kane was played out of the game. Brentford were physical with him when it was played into feet and crowded him out when he dropped deep, to the point that Kane was trying to force things and giving the ball away repeatedly.
