Garth Crooks has showered praise on Cristian Romero’s performance against Leicester City and named the Argentine along with Son Heung-min in his Team of the Week.
Romero put in a typically aggressive display at the back for the Lilywhites, with Leicester not getting much joy on the left as a result.
The 24-year-old put in some hard and uncompromising tackles through the ninety minutes, with his two back-to-back challenges in the second half paving the way for Spurs to break on the Foxes and to score their second goal through Son.
Crooks admitted that those challenges from the Tottenham centre-back were reminiscent of what he used to see in the 1980s.
The former Tottenham striker wrote about Romero for BBC Sport: “For Spurs’ important second goal against Leicester, the Argentine defender’s first tackle went through Patson Daka like a knife through butter while his second challenge left Caglar Soyuncu reeling on the ground without so much as an ounce of sympathy from referee Jon Moss.
“Both tackles by Romero were quite brilliant, totally legitimate and straight out of a 1980s coaching manual. The challenges resulted in Son getting his first goal.
“The South Korean needed no help at all with his second. Just when you thought the art of tackling was leaving the English game for good, Romero with the help of Moss gave us all hope.”
Following Son’s brace in the 3-1 win, Crooks questioned whether Tottenham made a mistake not cashing in on Harry Kane last summer, insisting that the South Korean is more than capable of inheriting the England captain’s goal-scoring mantle.
The former Spurs man also stated that retaining Conte will prove Tottenham’s biggest challenge of the summer.
He added: “Two goals by Son Heung-min may have put Spurs momentarily back into the top four but if they don’t stay there, speculation will inevitably return over the future of Antonio Conte and Harry Kane.
“Tottenham’s refusal in the summer to ‘take the money and run’ is starting to look like bad business.
“Son is quite capable of taking over Kane’s mantle, the question is how long can Spurs keep Conte when he is constantly being linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Top four is vital if Spurs are to keep the Italian. As for Son, he is going nowhere.”

I do not think there is a single player in world football who can shoot as well from medium to long-range with either foot as Son can. The consistency with which he can direct balls into the top corner with power from the edge of the box is quite unbelievable. As for Romero, he seems to be getting better and better with more games.
