Alan Shearer has labelled the current handball law as ‘rubbish’ after Tottenham were awarded a crucial penalty in their win over Burnley today.
Spurs beat the stubborn Clarets 1-0 on Sunday courtesy of Harry Kane’s first-half spot kick to move into the Premier League top four ahead of Arsenal.
But the award of the penalty did not come without controversy after VAR intervened to check a handball incident against Ashley Barnes.
Davinson Sanchez’s flick brushed against the Burnley striker’s arm before referee Kevin Friend consulted his monitor and eventually pointed to the spot.
The decision infuriated the visiting players and staff (BT Sport) as well as Shearer, who blasted the current laws of the game in penalising such incidents.

Kane made no mistake as he rolled in an effort into the corner of the net while leaving England colleague Nick Pope stranded between the posts.

Although it was harsh and the laws need to be reworked again, the current rulebook states it was a penalty regardless. For Spurs, they will no doubt take that decision as they have been on the other end of a few grey calls too this season
