The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has revealed there is no truth to reports indicating that Villarreal have agreed on a deal with Tottenham Hotspur for the permanent transfer of Giovani Lo Celso.
Unai Emery is thought to be keen on signing Lo Celso permanently on the back of his impressive loan spell at Villarreal, with the Argentine allegedly not in Antonio Conte’s plans (El Periodico Mediterraneo).
Fabrizio Romano claimed last week that Spurs are willing to sell the 26-year-old for around €20m (£17m) this summer.
Radio Castellon journalist Xavi Jorquera Marquez claimed on Monday that Villarreal had reached an agreement with Spurs on a transfer fee of €18m (£15.3m) plus €6m (£5.1m) in bonuses for Lo Celso.
He claimed that everything was ‘closed’ and that the Yellow Submarine were set to announce the midfielder’s signing on June 6 or 7.
However, Kilpatrick has now denied that claim, insisting that Spurs are yet to strike a deal with Villarreal for the former Real Betis man.
#thfc Am told no truth in reports that Spurs have agreed a deal to sell Lo Celso to Villarreal — although much hope that he will be one of the players sold permanently this summer.

Given how well Lo Celso performed at Villarreal, one would expect several La Liga clubs to show interest in the midfielder. Spurs would be hoping that the interest would push the midfielder’s price up. However, the one thing that might work in the favour of Unai Emery’s side might be the Argentine’s keenness to return to El Madrigal.
